Having trouble finding work as a content creator? Keep reading for a chance to make some passive income and gain recognition!

Job scarcity.
Finding employment is difficult. Any South African could tell you that for free! It is probably doubly hard to nab a position in the media production industry in Cape Town. With its over-saturated creative market. Candidly, with South Africa’s unemployment rate sitting at 33.5 percent, job scarcity fears are stronger than ever. Whether you are in the creative industry, or are finding a way to successfully join it. Keep trying – it’s completely normal to be in between employment, unemployed, or juggling many hustles while trying to find work in your preferred field.

Whether it be a lack of experience or accreditation it seems like there is always something stopping young creatives from successfully joining the industry. Many people have a dream to enter the creative industry – to tell their own stories, to curate and create worlds in film and TV. All story-tellers deserve a platform and an audience for their stories. However, this is not always possible on the first try or sometimes even the second.
Unfortunately, the creative industry seems focused on producing the work of people who are already well-connected or have money and means. Thus, entering the creative industry takes hard and consistent work, passion and a little help from companies like iKasi Creative. We want to empower content creators from all walks of life.

The power to create change.
At some point we have to ask ourselves – who is the industry favouring? If not our local stories then whose are being told? Don’t our stories deserve to be heard, and our talents seen regardless of money or connections? This makes the future seem grey and this is the narrative that iKasi is trying to combat. By upskilling rural youth with affordable, accredited production certifications we make sure our stories are heard. Now we are grateful to have the means to help even more.
With the Sallyhood project, in collaboration with TRACE studios, iKasi is able to give youth more opportunity to showcase their talents and make income. This bridges a gap between content creators and employment. The project gives content creators the opportunity to have their work showcased far and wide. We must thank TRACE for lending us its powerful distribution reach.

The Sallyhood Project emerges as a beacon of hope for content creators in Africa as creators will elevate their content and earn money through its distribution. Text “Sallyhood” to iKasi for more information on 082 957 5388.
It is important not to let the fear of failure stop you from joining the industry, because there is no way to fail. As long as you are producing work and content that you are proud of and that sticks true to who you are – then you’re one step closer to making your dreams come true. It takes resilience and perseverance to make it in any industry, but especially in the creative one. Develop a hard skin to rejection, never take no for an answer. Fail and try again, the most important thing – is that you keep trying.
